29th INFANTRY DIVISION GUESTBOOK
Shortly after his arrival to take command of the 29th Infantry Division in July 1943, Maj. Gen. Charles Gerhardt began the tradition of asking all visitors to his headquarters to sign the division’s guestbook.

Any officer who joined the 29th Division at field grade (major or above), or achieved that rank while in service with the division, was expected to sign General Gerhardt’s “Field Officer Record Book.”
